Dress Code

The Student-Parent Handbook covers in detail the Saint Lawrence Academy dress code policy.  The policy serves many purposes for the school:

  1. Safety - it allows the school to recognize anyone who is not one of our students easily and avoids the possibility of gang colors on campus;
  2. Levels the playing field - it avoids competition among students over their clothing;
  3. Focus on academics - it allows students to focus on their classes and not on their clothing;
  4. Discipline - we have found that students behave better when in uniform; and
  5. Appropriateness - it defines for students what the school considers appropriate and inappropriate; there is no guessing as to what students should or should not be wearing to school.

Slacks/Shorts - Boys and Girls

Shorts, slacks or capris in black, khaki, tan or gray are acceptable.  These pants must be made of cotton and may not be cargo style; most Docker and Dickie pants fit the criteria.  No athletic style pants or shorts are allowed.  No spandex, no sweats, no yoga pants, no corduroy, and no jeans are allowed.

Tops - Boys and Girls

Students must wear a school-issued polo shirt (gray, white, green, striped) purchased through the school campus store.  Students may wear a solid colored white or black shirt under their school-issued polo shirt.

Footwear

The only acceptable shoe colors are black, white, gray or brown.  This means no red, green, blue, etc.will be allowed on the shoe.  Shoes may be two-toned as long as the colors are a combination of the acceptable colors. The only appropriate styles is closed toe and back; shoes must be made of leather or canvas.

Outerwear - Boys and Girls

Coats, jackets, sweatshirts or sweaters are to be school-issued and must be worn over a school-issued polo shirt.  Jackets and sweatshirts are purchased through the school campus store while the school sweater can be purchased at Merry Mart.

Skirts - Girls

Academy approved SLA pleated skirts may be purchased at Merry Mart.  Skirts may not be shorter than five inches above the knee.  (To ensure appropriate length, the student should kneel down and measure the skirt from the ground to the bottom of the hem.)
