The Saint Lawrence cross country teams achieved the most dominant performances of their extremely successful seasons on Tuesday, October 23. Both Celtics' varsity team won their meets at the PSAL finals at Crystal Springs Race Course, and both teams advanced to next month's Central Coast Section meets as a result of these victories.
For the first time in Saint Lawrence Academy history, the girls cross country team brought home a league championship. The Celtics seized the PSAL title in a decisive fashion, scoring a near perfect16 points. All five girls finished with all-league honors as Emilia, Rosa and Sabrina Sambuceto earned first-team, all-league recognition. Lana Levenson and Rachel Hughes earned second-team, all-league honors. The girls earned the right to represent the league in the CCS finals on November 10, also a Saint Lawrence first.
For the third consecutive year, the boys varsity team won the PSAL finals. The Celtics scored a perfect 15 points with the top five finishers in the meet. Ashish Velagapudi finished first to earn individual league champion honors, and Devon Gonzalez, Justin Strong, Martin Perez, abnd Matt Perea rounded out the top five. Zach San Diego and Sean Keogh also finished in the top ten to earn second-team, all-league honors. The boys team will also compete in the CCS meet on November 10th with a chance to advance to the state tournament.
Congratulations to the Celtics JV team as well which finished in second place on Tuesday. Travis Loiacono, Jonny Vander Zweep, Nick Arquiza, Donald Quach, Mark Larwood, Tyler Rose, Tony Fortes, and Arjun Patel all ran well.
