Each spring, Saint Lawrence Academy stages a full musical production, with students involved in both the cast and crew. Since its beginning in 1994, the Saint Lawrence Academy Spring Musical has continuously had upwards of 15% student body participation.
The spring musical is open to all interested students. Auditions are held in late fall and include a full callback process for singing, acting, and dancing. Following the school's no-cut policy for activities, all students who audition are cast, providing the performing experience for any student who desires it.
Students also assist in the production of the spring musical by working on tech crew and participating in advisory roles. Tech crew includes 12-15 students who construct, build and paint set pieces. Tech crew also stage manages, runs scene changes, organizes props, runs spotlights and runs sound. Other students work in the capacities of costume assistants, prop managers, dance captains, student directors and assistant directors. Students are beginning to assist with choreography and blocking as well. There is a part to play for any student who has enthusiasm and interest.
The spring musical production includes a full orchestra, a large stage addition, rented costumes, complete sound and extensive stage lighting. The musical runs for four days in late March and generally plays to full audiences in the Saint Lawrence Community Center.
