Service Plunges

As part of the Saint Lawrence Academy commitment to social justice and community service, the Academy offers three Service Plunge experiences during the school year.  Each Plunge is designed  to help cohorts of 10 - 15 students gain insight into the workings of local community service organizations, and provide hands-on experience in connection with these local agencies.

Each year, there are two distinct one-day Service Plunge events, both of which take place on Saturdays.  One-day Plunges give students an opportunity to make new connections within their local community while they earn nine hours of service credit towards their yearly requirement for academy service hours.

In addition to the one-day Service Plunge events, an overnight Service Plunge takes place each year, beginning on campus with a service project for Friday evening, and continuing through Saturday with visits to different community organizations.  Spending a full 24 hours together offers participants a chance to grow closer together as they share in their experience of service, and also provides an opportunity to take a look at the nature of service and the impact that our volunteer hours have on our local community.

The 2011 - 2012 Service Plunge schedule is as follows:

  • Saturday, November 5, 2011 from 8:30 am - 5:30 pm
  • Friday, February 3, 2012 from 5:30 pm until Saturday, February 4, 2012 at 5:30 pm
  • Saturday, March 31, 2012 from 8:30 am - 5:30 pm
