The selection process is a comprehensive one. Saint Lawrence Academy looks for the following characteristics in a student:
- grades of C or better in 7th and 8th grade
- good marks in homework, conduct and effort
- positive teacher and school recommendations
- involvement in extracurricular activities
- solid test scores on the High School Placement Test
- a positive interview
Priority is given to students who are Catholic and/or attend a Catholic elementary school.
Saint Lawrence Academy will request copies of 7th and 8th grade report cards to verify grades, marks in homework, conduct, and effort, and attendance.
If a student feels they do not meet one of the above mentioned criteria, he/she is encouraged to include a letter with his/her application which explains the cause of the deficiency. The school is certainly aware that illness, death in the family, divorce, etc. can affect student grades, attendance, and behavior.
